In 2013, husband and wife team, Nicole and Brandt Genz left their engineering careers to start what was then known as Rescued Furnishings. The small store on Lafayette functioned as a space to refinish furniture, build and paint cabinets, host DIY classes for the community, and sell a small collection of locally-sourced home decor.

Rescued Furnishings became RF Home Co with the build out of our 20,000 sq ft retail space. Located in Kirkwood, the store was home to a thriving community of over 40 local small businesses.

In 2024, when we were forced to move out of our Lafayette cabinet shop and our Kirkwood retail store within the same few months, we knew we had the opportunity to grow something from the chaos. We purchased a building in the Bevo Mill neighborhood, gutted it, and got to work. (Do you know how many plastic eagles are in a run-down building? We do.)

In this new home, The RFC was born. We have always had a passion for building small businesses up - whether that be our own home refinishing company, the 60+ local businesses we've been able to work with over the years, or the businesses we've been adjacent to that only wanted to see us fail. We believe that rising tides lift all boats -- and The RFC is our ocean.
